Shinlai try out

This is my try out reference for a Shinlai!! oooooooo

I tried to make her quite average looking. I had noticed an overpopulation of 'exceptional' shinlai, including all the balanced.

D. Background history:

When Ehdfits was young, she was found buried in the snow at the very base of a large mountain. It was a large male Shinlai who found and uncovered her infant body.

The middle of winter, the young Shinlai would have died had she been left alone; and so, the Shinlai whom had discovered her carried her to a small cave that shielded them both from the elements.

Years later, Ehdfits had grown to be an averaged size Shinlai, if not small. Beneath her fur, she was far too skinny, with the little there was to eat as high up in the mountains as she was. However, her dear friend and ealier savior Mantun kept her by his side.

She had met many female Shinlai before her. All of whom had smoother tidyer fur. They had toned legs with trim waists, and yet Mantun stayed with the average Ehdfits. You see, he did not believe that she was ugly, or average.

Since the day he found her, she had shown great promise in the very same element as his own. Water. She learned quickly, and was much easier to manage, all her growing life then most young finicky Shinlai. He would have remained her companion the rest of his long life. Only if that one storm had been less fierce. If the ice had been visible beneath their feet. If that one cliff had been an inch longer.

He would never had fallen.

Again, Ehfits found herself burried beneath snow; only this time, her only friend, brother, and father, was laying beside her. She watched his form, waiting for any sign of movement, for nearly one week before she was found yet again. This time, it was a young human girl who came across her.

The young girl, along with her sled dogs, dug the Shinlai out of the snow above them. Ehdfits had fallen into a cold sleep during the uncovering, and only awoke several days later.

She woke up in the care of a small village of humans. It was rare to see such a small gathering of the little mammals. Ehdfits took to them quickly. Took to their homely warmth and care.
When it came time for the now adult Shinlai to receive her mask, she did not think she would receive one. Sure, she had mastered her water element to a efficient degree; but she was not amongst other Shinlai, and she did not expect the humans to know or even understand the importance of the ritual.

They proved her wrong, when they presented her with a mask. Painted brown, with a white marking of what they knew was the water sign for Shinlai over the eye.

However important they knew this was to Ehdfits, they had used the one thing they knew she had loved more then anything in the world, to create her mask. Ehdfits recognized it instantly and was barely audible between her cries of sorrow and joy as the humans placed it on her head.

It was the top half of Muntan's skull, prepared like a Shinlai mask would be.
During the ritual, the humans asked Ehdfits to protect all those who traveled in the mountains from tragic deaths like Muntan's. They, who lost many men and women to the wild mountain rage. They, who now trusted her. They knew she would accept. She was kind, and though she could sometimes act distant a cold, they knew her well enough to see beyond it.

Ehdfits agreed, and was promised the human village as a sanctuary of warmth and welcome. A familly, and a home in return. She was also given her name then.

It was inspired by her sleepy muttering, that night when she dozed off. The young girl who had found her, heard her mumbling to herself. "it fits, it fits...."*
Passed from word of mouth, it turned to Ehdfits, where it stuck.

Since then, the village has been abandoned where the humans had moved to a more heavily populated city. Ehdfits still visits the little village, where one fire is constantly kept lit by a young woman and her old dog.

* It is assumed that when Ehdfits was muttering, she was referring to Muntan's skull fitting upon her own.

Personality:

Over all, Ehdfits is friendly, if not a little rude. She is easy to approach and will not shoot anyone down immediately upon meeting them. However, she oftenly decides very quickly after the initial meeting if she likes said person or not. She tends to jump to conclusions.

She has very strong opinions on nearly everything. Because of this, she is usually kept to her own devices. Most other 'lai would have nothing to do with her.

She tends to get jealous of other female Shinlai; especially if they are pretty. JEALOUS TYPE :3


Skills in her element:

Ehdfits is blessed with the element water. While it is painfully obvious as to why it is helpful in the snowy mountains; she always manages to find obscure ways to use her element.

She loves making little sculptures out of ice. This pass time stemmed from her long days taking care of human travelers as they pass the mountains. With so many gaps and cliffs, Ehdfits began creating ice bridges to get across otherwise dangerous areas. Years of practice have given the experience to create beautiful bridges. Many humans who remember her from the old village whom had cared for her, now travel through the mountain purposely to see her creations. Ehdfits also uses her ice skill to create wind charms; which she uses to warn travelers of dangerous areas of the mountain in various areas.

While the sound the charms make are beautiful, they mean danger is near and caution should kept at a high. She will often where charms in her antler rack so travelers know she is near. The charms she wears are of a higher pitch then the warning charms.
